Watson Foundations Tool
The Watson Foundations tool from IBM offers a couple of server solutions for Big Data analytics. It is an analytics platform that can be installed on your servers. This means that it is not a typical desktop tool that you download on your computer. Instead you download clients to work with the server backend of this software product suite. One of its advantages is that it provides solutions that go beyond traditional transactional sources of data. It generates insights across unstructured, semi-structured, and streaming data sources.
Deployment on IBM Power Systems
In order to succesfully engage in Big Data many organizations deploy a Linux-based IT infrastructure. This infrastructure in turn is designed to handle both structured and unstructured data. More information on deployment on IBM Power Systems is available here (pdf).
IBM InfoSphere BigInsights Tool
IBM InfoSphere BigInsights is an Enterprise-ready Hadoop-based tool. It enables analytics of structured and unstructured data. It is build on the open source Apache Hadoop tool. The difference to open source Hadoop is an enterprise grade Performance using adaptive Map-Reduce and security. Most notably it works with the General Parallel File System (GPFS) – File Placement Optimizer (FPO). This tool thus offers a more user-friendly tool for large-scale analytics than a complex combination of open source products.
